Ubuntu strives to provide a safe haven and professional education for all its children. Ubuntu was started by the community of Citrusdal in September 2008 after a little child was killed in a car accident. The big problem of children wandering around unprotected in the informal housing area was quickly addressed by a local church. They appointed two capable and loving women to look after the children, ages 0-6 years. Ubuntu is still in the developing stages. There is still a great need and urgent help is of the utmost importance.
Ubuntu needs the following: food, clothes, toys, books (English, Xhosa and Afrikaans), a safe building, playground, tires, planks and other material needed for a playground, a fence and regular funds.
Ubuntu is currently being registered as a Playgroup at the Health and Welfare Department. This registration however does not provide any subsidies. Ablutions and running water nearby is of great concern, as the placement of these facilities will help the process of registering Ubuntu as a Crèche for State Funding.
Ubuntu is run by the local church and currently funded by the children’s parents.
